Welcome to the 2026 ECVS One Minute Smartphone Film Challenge

Congratulations to all the filmmakers who contributed to the 2026 One minute Smartphone film challenge!
 

There was a Fantastic range of storytelling, collaboration and technical expertise on show
Our judges selected ’The Dig’ by Alex McNiell as the Inaugural Award winner, a snow-filled Fargo/Twin Peaks gem of a film.
Runner up was a film by Scott McIntosh titled ‘Expel’, a Cronenberg like body horror built around a very active mind responding to doom scrolling. They took home one years ECVS Memership as their prize.
Our Audience Award winner was
Paul Michael Rosano for 'The Disappearance', a fantastic stop motion kidnap-high speed car chase-crime caper with a built Lego environment!

Some suggestions ...

You can use these as launch ideas or do something innovative. Do something 'you'.
We are looking for engaging films that reveal your cinematic chops. Flex your cinematic muscles.

  • ‘My Day’ - film 10-15 seconds every half hour of a single day. Edit it down to 1 minute.​

  • 7-20 word story. Edit it down to 1 minute.​

  • Interview: pick a topic and film yourself as interviewer and subject. Edit it down to 1 minute.​

  • Horror/thriller: setup a Character with a ‘jumpscare’ conclusion​

  • Sci-Fi: Stranded explorer tries to communicate with an alien​

  • Comedy: character in common experience with comedic tones, series of unfortunate event​

  • Stop motion animation or shadow puppet performance.

ENTRIES CLOSE FEBRUARY 13TH, 2026

There will be a screening event in Edinburgh, Scotland, in our hidden Cinema, on March 19th, 2026.
